Tyke R.I.P.
posted 25 February 2008

This morning my cat Tyke was put to rest, after being diagnosed with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV, cat version of HIV) before Christmas. Then he had lost 2 kgs through loss of appetite, and developed a nasty sickness. After finding out about his FIV, we decided to try antibiotics to keep the infections down, and steroids to increase his appetite, both of which worked wonderfully, although obviously not as a viable long-term solution. Recently however the treatments were becoming less and less effective, and so the decision was made to give him a respectful and peaceful end.

He was the perfect cat and companion, and undeniably a part of the family. He helped me through some very difficult periods of my life, and was my closest friend. I'm glad I could spend the last hours close to him. He was 15 years old, so lived a long life, and he will be sorely missed.

R.I.P. Tyke, I love you.
